Bajorans

Bajoran Emblem

Bajoran

The Bajorans are a humanoid race from the planet Bajor, and are easily recognizable by their rigid noses and their ceremonial earrings. They are a very ancient and religious race of people, with a history that stretches back some 500,000 years. Also, they are deeply spiritual, and their history is filled with many great architects, artists, builders, and philosophers.

Bajoran culture declined seriously during decades of Cardassian occupation in the 24th century, during which most Bajorans were driven from their homeworld, after Bajor was claimed as a Cardassian territory from about 2328. The Cardassians formally annexed Bajor in 2339, and occupied the planet until 2369, when Bajor resistance fighters finally drove them away. Upon the departure of the Cardassian military and dictatorial forces, the Bajoran provisional government requested the assistance from the Federation to help them in operating the former Cardassian space station, now designated as space station Deep Space Nine.

Bajoran custom dictates that the family name is placed before the individual's. Hence Major Kira Nerys is correctly addressed as Major Kira whilst her forename is Nerys.

One of the Orbs

Bajoran religion believes that ships are safely guided through the Bajoran wormhole by the Prophets and that the Celestial Temple dwells within the passage. The Bajoran religious faith was a powerful force in their society, and helped give the Bajoran people the spiritual strength to survive the brutal Cardassian oppression.

**Each of the 9 Orbs has a unique power.** Each one deals with a different aspect of linear existence. An Orb may show scenes from the past, present, or future. It is either totally objective, a combination of objective and subjective truth, or totally subjective, so it shows either a scene of what is actually and undeniably true in the physical sense (objective power), a scene outlining the way in which what is physically true interacts with the feelings and mind-set of the user (interactive power), or a scene that exists entirely within the user's mind (subjective power). Orb Case

Each Orb is oriented in one of the three time periods (past, present, and future), and has one of the three powers (objective, interactive, subjective). Orbs are usually stored inside a special case, shown here.
