Remarks:
Recently, Starfleet has assigned the Aotearoa to the USS Katana as an auxiliary ship. It is equipped with transporters and has
the ability to enter a planet's atmosphere.
The Scout Ship is slightly larger than a runabout and can enter a Starship Shuttlebay; it also has docking/access ports on its underside and top; which can be used to link the scout ship to other vessels or space stations. Once the ships are joined, personnel can move between them via a short ladder behind scout's cockpit.
The basic design of the cockpit is reminiscent of the Type-9 Shuttle, with wraparound consoles and large windows that give the pilot and Flight Engineer/Tactical a clear view of the surrounding area. Normally, there is seating for only one, but this particular Scout ship is the rare Apache Class variant, with twin seats, one seated next to the other with a single canopy. In all actuality, Flight Engineer/Tactical functions could be conducted by the pilot and vice versa. The "Rightseater" can be anyone. The LCARS and console could be used by a wide variety of personnel and missions. Anything from Engineering, Tactical, Scientific and even Command and Control of multiple starships and mission OPS could be performed. Access to the cockpit can be gained by the Docking and access hatches top and bottom.
In case the shields fail or an opponent forces the scout ship to alter its shield harmonics, the ship is equipped with transport inhibitors which can be used to prevent an enemy from beaming the crew off the ship. At this time, it's equipped with standard shields.
